影片改编自蒲松龄《聊斋志异》之《聂小倩》。小倩生前被人所负含恨而终，死后化为女鬼，被姥姥囚禁于兰若寺。恰逢书生宁生进京赶考，借宿此地，意外救下小倩。逃亡途中，两人不断遭遇人间及地府势力的阻挠，却也在此般经历中感情升温。宁生带着小倩感受了人间美好，小倩决心还阳，却在到达鬼市后发现事情远没有这么简单……

　　THE CONFINES is a claustrophobic thriller that follows a troubled young woman who, in a last-ditch effort at getting her life together, takes a job working nights as a security guard at an abandoned luxury apartment building. Stuck with a brusque rent-a-cop as her partner, she tries to not let her mind play tricks on her while she patrols the empty halls. But as the night progresses strange things begin to happen - and she realizes it may not all be in her head.

物語は1970年代、桐島の大学時代から始まる。反日武装戦線の活動に共鳴して行動をともにしていた彼は、1974年の三菱重工爆破事件で多数の犠牲者を出したことにより、深い葛藤にさいなまれる。警察当局の捜査が進んで組織が壊滅状態になる中、指名手配された桐島は偽名を使って逃亡。やがて工務店での住み込みの職と静かな生活を手にした桐島は、ライブハウスで歌手キーナと知り合う。

明朝中叶，西北边城，青楼女子接连被残杀，隐匿线索直指边关军营，神捕白展飞奉命调查，却屡屡受阻，无奈下只得暗中探查。然而当他拨开层层迷雾，竟发现此案潜藏着一场不可告人的惊天阴谋。喋血孤城，命悬一线。（影剧备字〔2023〕第1669号）
